How Accessibility on Demand™ Works

Accessibility on Demand™ (AoD) turns scanned and digitally born PDFs into accessible, audit-ready files aligned to WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and PDF/UA. You upload, choose a service level, and download a remediated PDF—often within minutes. For complex forms and high-stakes documents, our Expert Review adds human validation.

Overview | How it Works | Compliance

The 3-step workflow

Step 1

  • Drag-and-drop single PDFs or bulk batches from your CMS/LMS/drive
  • Scanned pages are OCR-processed
  • Digital text is preserved

Step 1

02

Step 2

Select the Right Level

  • Standard (bulk text): automated tagging, reading order, OCR, basic alt text.
  • Enhanced (visual/structured): everything in Standard plus contextual alt text and advanced tables/charts/lists.
  • Expert Review (forms/critical): everything in Enhanced plus human validation and interactive-form remediation (labels, roles, tab order, required/validation cues).

Step 3

Download & Publish

  • Fully tagged
  • Logical reading order
  • Alt text applied
  • Metadata + bookmarks

Under the Hood

AI document intelligence detects layout/structure (headings, lists, tables, figures) and sets logical reading order.

OCR + text normalization converts scans to searchable text; preserves native text in digital PDFs.

Tables & charts get advanced tagging (header scope, associations) and prompts for concise chart descriptions when needed.

Images receive contextual alt-text suggestions you can accept or edit.

Interactive forms (Expert) add labels, roles, tab order, and validation cues, with spot-checks using assistive tech.

Metadata & bookmarks set document language, title, and navigable bookmarks for longer files.

What you get at each level

Standard — fast, bulk accessibility

Automated tagging & reading order, OCR, basic alt text, metadata/ bookmarks. Best for typed-text backfiles and policy PDFs. Typical PAC target: ≥90%.

Enhanced — public-facing quality

Everything in Standard plus contextual alt text and advanced tables/ charts/ lists. Best for visual or highly structured PDFs. Typical PAC target: ≥95%.

Expert Review — forms & mission-critical

Everything in Enhanced plus human validation and interactive-form remediation. Best for high-stakes documents and SLAs. Typical PAC target: ≥99%.

Note: Achievable scores depend on source quality and complexity. Interactive forms usually require Expert Review.

See the evidence (Audit Pack sample)

Request a redacted Audit Pack to see a PAC report, a brief checks summary, and a remediation log for a sample document—so your team can compare before/after checks and keep artifacts for audits.

Integrations (for IT buyers)

API options for CMS/ECM/board portals (e.g., WordPress, Finalsite, BoardDocs, SharePoint/ECM). Supports bulk drops and scheduled waves for ongoing programs.

Glossary (quick definitions)

Tagged PDF — Structural tags (headings, lists, tables, figures) that enable screen readers to navigate and understand content.

Logical reading order — The sequence assistive technologies follow; AoD ensures the text flows correctly across columns/sections.

Alt text — Short, meaningful descriptions for images/charts.

Table headers & scope — Associations that tell a screen reader which headers apply to each cell.

PDF/UA — ISO 14289; the international standard for accessible PDFs.

PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker) — Widely used conformance checker; AoD’s Audit Pack includes PAC results.

FAQs about the workflow

How fast is the process?

Most files complete in minutes at Standard or Enhanced. Expert Review typically takes 24–48 hours, depending on complexity and volume. SLA options are available.

Can we review or edit the results?

Yes. You can adjust the reading order, tag tree, OCR’d text, and alt text before publishing.

Do you handle difficult tables and charts?

Yes. Enhanced and Expert levels apply advanced table semantics and support concise chart descriptions.

What about fillable forms?

Handled in Expert Review—labels, roles, tab order, required indicators, and validation cues—with spot-checks using assistive tech.

Will this change our CMS/portal?

No. We return publish-ready PDFs and advise settings so your CMS doesn’t flatten tags after upload.

Upload two sample files or request a demo—we’ll return a short remediated example and an Audit Pack preview.
